never mind, I'm already in.
the irc channel is looking good, c'mon people check it out
I'm in.C'mon people, join and let's have fun:happy:
I'm glad the SB-I staff took the feedback and came to the conclusion to use IRC. I look forward using this service!
However, I have one question. Why is it open for everyone? I thought it was agreed to be members and above only, due to the security reasons discussed.

There is Shoutbox for members (by request) and above.
By the way i request Shoutbox since i don't like IRC.

we had it locked first but after consideration we figured it would be best to have it open for the start.
however it's not that open, the channel is invisible and we can always ban people we don't like.
to make it really closed it'd have to be for member title users or above only but that might mean not enough 'life' in there. let's just see how it gös we can add or remove passwords and stuff at any time
Whats about the security? Could other user see my IP?
They can see your IP if you don't register your nickname.
They can see your IP if you don't register your nickname.
no, only the last part
They can see your IP if you don't register your nickname.
The server uses cloaking by default. Others can't see your IP, even if you don't get a vhost.
Great idea!
C'mon people come in!!

So you have some affiliation to the Culinary Institute of America? That I wasn't aware of.

of course but i need to cut it down a bit. weight and stuff :P
On the other side, I'm the kind of person that can mix water with water and make it explode. If I'm ever left on my own and the phone breaks (rendering me unable to order a pizza), I might PM you for a tip or two or five.
I get these messsages when I try to connect to the IRC:
* Connect retry #2 irc.6667.eu (6667)
-
* Unable to connect to server (Permission denied)
Help is appreciated
What IRC client are you using? I would recommend you to install XChat-WDK.
I am using mIRC. I managed to connect once, but then...
Most likely som config issue. Let's try XChat-WDK. Choose the portable install when asked.
Do u connect to IRC trough ur real IP or do u use proxies?
certain ips and clients are banned there. (for good reason :P)

But I feel uncofortable everyone seeing my IP when they click on whois :D
That's why they use cloaking.

you can even have displayed whatever you like. it's called vhost. hence the irc topic says: "To get a vhost, join #vhost."

You can see your own IP (the one you are connected with the irc server [could be a VPN or whatever]) through whois. Others can't, except for the IRC owners. If you don't want your hostname shown, then get a vhost from #vhost
