You can configure Adobe's Flash Player globally using a config file.

Enforce Global Flash Player Security And Privacy Settings (http://www.ghacks.net/2010/09/07/enforce-global-flash-player-security-and-privacy-settings/)

A page I was browsing some minutes ago recommends setting both DisableDeviceFontEnumeration and DisableSockets to 1 as anti-tracking measures.

What exactly do I gain with this?

Privacy. You can prevent Flash applets from using those two features to profile or snitch on you.

I was hoping for some better performance! :D

You want better performance? Set quality to low (there was a Firefox addon to automatically do this), and in case you don't need to interact with the applet, just open it on a new window and reduce its size until only the titlebar remains (possible with Opera, no idea about other browsers).
