I use codecs from this site .. sufficiently enough for me Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs (http://shark007.net) and they enable playback of formats from 3gp to mp4 and avi and so on .. something I like about Shark007's FREE Codec solutions - Windows 7 codecs (http://shark007.net) codec packages is that you don't need to install separate players for each file type such as flv player for to play an flv file type etc.

it's the same player as KMPlayer, or not? see KMPlayer - Download (http://kmplayer.en.softonic.com/)

Aren't all codecs the same? I'm using latest CCCP and it works fine!

Pure Codec let you choose between these players (Media Player Classic, The KMPlayer, Daum PotPlayer and Windows Media Player).

Most important settings are:

http://i56.tinypic.com/20mgif.png

1- for choosing different types of modes (codecs are chosen automatically).
2- for choosing the player you want.

The rest are for choosing renders, splitters and decoders manually, I'd love if anybody shares his knowledge for best viewing.

If you've messed a lot choosing and trying codecs, "Codecs Repair" option comes in handy and restores the program to it's factory settings.

Also, the File type associate tools is very useful:

It's recommended to uninstall all kind of codecs and players except for VLC before installing Pure Codec to avoid conflict.

What is the difference between this [Pure Codec], KMPlayer, SMPlayer and VLC? Are the codecs in Pure Codec better than the internals ones in those players? What about CoreCodec?

No one said it was better; afaik, VLC can also play almost everything but i don't like it. Pure Codec has alot of advantages ( see above i.e, new icons for each video extension unlike the crappy look of vlc icons ..etc).
I didn't try SMPlayer or KMPlayer so i can't talk about it.

That's just aesthetics, if that is the only difference.

i must admit that i don't like vlc either (on a windows machine, at least. On mac and linux is a different story). Personally I always go with the KLite codec pack. MPC is just lovely :]

VLC can't handle 1080p films. Other than that, it is a great player.

madashi video renderer

You mean madshi renderer (madvr)

Highly recommended! You can read everywhere its the best Codec/Renderer that exists.

Read more here:

Tutorial madVR - Configuration - HomeCinema-HD (http://www.homecinema-hd.com/madvr_en.html)

Also the german HDC-Tracker recommend madvr, and at HDC are all "quality enthusiast".

Why is madvr recommended? Is it because of its GPU assist?

Why is madvr recommended? Is it because it of GPU assist?

No

this ist the first version (as far as i know) which has GPU assist. Its made to bring the best possible Quality. It needs a High Power Computer to run smooth. The Quality has to do with "LUT" and a lot more parameters/stuff. Its all very technical, if you want more Informations, check the Link at bottom of this post.

- high quality chroma upsampling
- high quality scaling (bicubic, mitchell, lanczos, spline etc)
- high quality YCbCr -> RGB conversion
- gamut & gamma correction for display calibration
- full 16bit processing queue
- final 16bit processing result is dithered down to RGB output bitdepth
- bypasses graphics card's video (damage) algorithms
- all work is done via GPU shaders
- no shortcuts, highest quality has priority over anything else

This is better than CoreCodec as well?

If you talking about CoreAVC:

CoreAVC´s goal is to be fast and have a low CPU consumption. In this case its highly developed.

When we talk about Quality, madvr is better. Madvr is much slower and needs extreme CPU-Power/GPU-Power.

Look at post #16:

highest quality has priority over anything else

All this codec talk is making me point out one very important aspect: your mileage my vary depending on your screen. I've noticed better quality with default MediaPlayer HC on a 50'' LCD TV than with madvr, and the reversed on the notebook screen and on the LCD monitor sitting on my desk.
