View Full Version : How hot do your computers run?

Whether you're on the cutting edge of technology, or use a clunker from years ago, how hot does your system get? I personally have a very hot computer. It's primarily caused by a 295, and it runs hot enough that my room is significantly hotter than the rest of the house (my room is maybe 8x10-12 feet though). The 295 idles around 70*C and goes up to maybe 85-90*c when active. My processor, an i7-930, idles at around 40*c, I don't really know how hot it goes up to when under heavy usage though. I love the fact that it's a good computer, but I dislike how much heat it generates. Also, what do you use for cooling solutions?

My processor idles at 30-40ºC and goes up to 50 degrees when doing intensive work (such as transcoding video). The motherboard's usually not hotter than 25º or so.

I use one of these for cooling the former: http://www.dansdata.com/images/quickshot011/ttv12640.jpg

I have a P4@2.8Ghz, it idles at 55C, and sets around 65C when used, goes near 70C when taxed.
I recall using it at 95C when I realized the silicone grease was dried out and it was 40C in my room (we have very hot summers here!)
As for cooling I use the original cooler which I honestly do not like. I tried adding a few fans to the chassis, even covered all the CD bays with them and barely noticed a difference. I haven't tried anything else since then, I no longer want to invest anything in that computer (though I could glue little coolers on the side of the heatsink :P)

Also, I have a question on what defines your current temperature. I use Core Temp, but because I have an i7-930, I get all four cores. Two of them always seem to run maybe 5 degrees lower, whether because that side of the chip is hotter by coincidence or bad thermal grease application. Anyways, what qualifies as the temperature that you would others when comparing; Is it an average of all four temperatures or simply the highest any core gets?

The CPU's a bit hotter than usual. I blame springtime having just started today. :pinch:

32*C {IDLE} with a i7 920 featuring a True 120 Extreme Cooler, Push Pull Setup with 2x120mm Noctua Fans and a large Haf932 Case.

Pretty good temperatures considering it is always hot around here.

Btw, The system IS NOT in a Air-conditioned Room.

93°C is my HDD most of the time. And my processor is stable at 65°C. I need to put a FAN for my HDD!
