View Full Version : What was the name of that game?
Hey All,
can any one help me find the name of an old (old!) game, 2 of them actually. Played then when I was young in the arcade.
1) It was one of those sit down cabinets, a space invaders style game. You were in a ship at the bottom (could only move left/right If I recall). The first wave of bad guys were green and second wave were blue. Not much to go, but maybe someone remembers.
2) Second one is probably easier. It was about 2 brothers (player 1 and 2), in a plane and it shot down. They get out of the plane and the game starts. It was on of those top-down scrollers, could only walk forward. The controller was a little unusual as it turned/twisted 360. One was blue and shot blue bullets, the other red and shot red bullets.
I'd love to get these two on ROMs, but I have to know the names first! :)
Any ideas?

Way back, 20 years at least, but games could have been older , but somewhere between 80 - 89. So definitely the old school blocky graphics.

1) It was definitely Space Invaders rip off, but was version 2.0 so to speak, the bad guys would "jump" from the top in an arc and try crash into you. Some times would they would (a wave) fly in an arc, so if you were just in the right spot you could take them all out by holding the fire button.
2) It is a top down scroller, not a side scroller, the graphics were also not quite as good. Oh if it helps, they were in a jungle, there were tanks and gun emplacements.

That's the one! Wow I wasted so much money on that game when I was a kid! Good times! :)
Now just have to figure out what the second one is! I don't think it was metal gear. It was pure action, shoot anything that moves!

MERCS maybe? Mercs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercs)
I also remember another shooter where a chopper deployed you in the jungle.
I know they dont meet the 360 thing you mentioned, but I honestly did not understand that part :biggrin:
the second description seems very similar to GunStar Heroes , maybe its the one your looking for .

I second that. What a cool looking game it was.
Afraid it isn't Mercs Mercs or GunStar Heroes, the graphics in both are too good. It must have been an earlier game.
It is a top-down game, similar to Galaga, you are looking down from above. Any other suggestions?

i spent countless hours playing it , it was one of my favourite games back then ! the graphics the game had that time were :shockkk!:

Maybe you are talking about "Metal Slug" ? My favourite cabinet game, I love this serie :biggrin:

I think I know the second game, but I can not remember the name, that is why I went with Mercs :biggrin:

What an awesome game! I wonder if any emulator can play it? It has an unusual joystick that you could twist as well as move (twisting allowed you to point where you wanted to shoot.

PS. Don't cheat too much here because their main treasure is Mame which is freeleech aka no download counted

Yes FakeKing I know this tracker. But for use it first I need to know torrent. And I don't know torrent now :frown:
Cheat ? I don't know how cheat, I will learn if in future I will use private trackers but I think not.

I got a full set of updated and checked mame roms from emule, 4 dvds (compressed)
Not only that, but actual updates for EACH release (ROM updates: added/removed/modified)
Unfortunately I can not source it, no free HD space :frown:

They're (compressed, the last version) 24 GB only for ROMs... the CHDs are more than 100 GB. I never used CHDs because they're not working very often and in any case in total are only 80 games. The ROMs, are 8000+ working... :top:
In any case search in eMule "p@r@64", you can download MAME + All Roms from his releases... For the artwork and other is much more difficult... I have it in my MAME, 0 missing but at the moment I can't share my full release. I think in future I will do that.

Woa! Yes it has a couple of years old. I don't know what a CHD is :frown:

The CHD are the image wich are on the hard disk of cabinet in the bar.
A Roms is made from MAME developer and work only with MAME.
There is also roms for Neo-Geo wich work only for neo-geo and much more.

Ok I guess I do not have any CHDs.
About Neo Geo, I prefer to use a Neo Geo emulator, MAME may rock in almost every possible way, but it is CPU intensive. Back when I had a Pentium I 233 (Until 12/2005 :frown:) I couldn't play more than 1942 at full FPS, while RAINE, some Neo Geo emu I can't recall and another known arcade emu (looked like Genecyst/Nesticle but in green) played a LOT faster.
Anyway I am a retro gamer, being Strikers 1945 I & II the 2 games I like the most, so I do not think I need an update :cool: LOL
