Let me start by saying this. How many times did your search for your
music on google back in the days you didn't know so much about
torrents or private trackers??
Remember?? song_name by name_artist free mp3 download .Sometimes it
worked..sometimes it didn't.
Personally I recall searching for songs on google a lot.
That's till someone told me about searching on "www.torrentz.com"
"Yeah with z" he said.
Shortly after that I remember joining my first private music tracker:
waffles.fm.
Several weeks passed and my ratio got low.
My thirst thought was:"Hey why not use Greedy Torrent?Worked on FL.ro
so it should work here too."
That's how my first ban occurred.
After that I started searching for new ways to get my music.

http://shoutcast.com/
http://www.fliis.com/

Now that we went together through all these online music streaming services I'm pretty sure you found one you like. Now onto the second part of this thread.
Downloading music from the net.
1.The most raw and primitive way is searching on google.I guess you know how to search on google right?:wink2:.But just so you know..google piracy evolved.
You might wanna try one of these:
--Google Pirate v2 Extended
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/65708Use Google to find free music, tv shows, movies, anime, torrents, comics, books and other files stored publicly online.
It has broadened search results compared to normal Google Pirate. Most of Google Pirate's results are based on FTP results, this version finds both, FTP and websites listing DDL links (i.e. Megaupload or Rapidshare). It also has a few new categories...
It needs a bit of tweaking, but i feel it gives out more relevant search results for what you're looking for. Check back for newer versions
--googlehacks
http://code.google.com/p/googlehacks/Google Hacks is a compilation of carefully crafted Google searches that expose novel functionality from Google's search and map services. For example, you can use it to view a timeline of your search results, view a map, search for music, search for books, and perform many other specific kinds of searches. You can also use this program to use google as a proxy.

2.Another option is searching for your song on specialized sites that host mp3 files available for download. Here's a handful of them:

http://beemp3.com/
http://www.seekasong.com/
http://mp3realm.org/
http://www.emp3world.com/
http://www.mp3raid.com/
http://www.mp3fusion.net
http://soulseekrecords.org/

3.Ever heard of rapidshare??RapidShare is the world leader in one-click file hosting arena, despite being the most popular file-sharing service rapidshare.com lacks file search feature, the only reason I can assume they lack this feature is to avoid searching of copyrighted files by their legal owners getting illegally distributed by this pirate friendly file-hosting service. Nevertheless, their exist many services which allow you to search files hosted on rapidshare.com and other major file-sharing services like Megaupload.com, these free file search engines can be used to search for links of software, movies, music and ebooks hosted on rapidshare and similar services.
Here are some rapidshare search engines you should use.
http://rapidshare-search-engine.com/
http://www.rapidshare1.com/
http://www.rapidsharelink.com/
http://www.c3k.net/
http://www.filestube.com/
http://filefab.com/
http://www.searchshared.com/
http://www.oneclickfiles.com/

4.The fourth method is FTP downloading.I will not cover this because it's already fully covered here.FTP dump sites available in the article.
http://filesharefreak.com/2009/03/31/active-list-of-ftp-dump-sites-for-warez-and-music/

5.The fifth method is Soulseek.A unique ad-free, spyware free, and just plain free file sharing application that can help you find rare or individual tracks.
http://www.slsknet.org/

6.Ares Galaxy is an open source P2P file sharing application that uses its own decentralized supernode/leaf network. It was spun-off from the Gnutella network in 2002, and is currently hosted on SourceForge.net. Ares Galaxy has a simple, quick access interface with a built in audio/video viewer. The latest versions also support the BitTorrent protocol and Shoutcast radio stations.
More info and details in this thread made by anon:
http://www.sb-innovation.de/f93/ares-galaxy-3634/#post24318

7.eMule is a free peer-to-peer file sharing application for Microsoft Windows. Started in May 2002 as an alternative to eDonkey2000, eMule now connects to both the eDonkey network and the Kad network. The distinguishing features of eMule are the direct exchange of sources between client nodes, fast recovery of corrupted downloads, and the use of a credit system to reward frequent uploaders. Furthermore, eMule transmits data in zlib-compressed form to save bandwidth.
For more info see wiki and offical page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMule

8.Torrent indexers are very helpful to banned music lovers. One awesome torrent indexer that's only for music is coda.fm.You can find a full review here (http://www.slsknet.org/).
You can also use other tracker indexers like:
http://torrentz.com/
http://btjunkie.org/
http://www.kickasstorrents.com/

9.http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/819/spotifylogor.png
is a proprietary peer-to-peer music streaming service that allows instant listening to specific tracks or albums, with virtually no buffering delay.Music can be browsed by artist, by album, by record label or by created playlists as well as by direct searches. A link allows the listener to purchase selected material via partner retailers. The service is currently only available from IP addresses assigned to providers in Sweden, Spain, Norway, Finland, the United Kingdom and France, although after signing up it can be used from any country.http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/379/300pxspotifyscreenshot.png

and many others.Plus let's not forget about the awesome private tracker: Demonoid.com (http://www.demonoid.com/).

Those who love linux should also take a look at this article. It features two nice tools and a how-to download videos from youtube tutorial.

Got banned on every music tracker?

Actually I'm dual-wielding What and Waffles accounts.

Nice try, though.

---------- Post added at 19:35 ---------- Previous post was at 19:29 ----------

You're forgetting GoEar.com and Ares.

Also, Rapidshare knows it's used for piracy - who the hell would pay 50 euro for unlimited access to their family photos?

SBfreak

I couldn't find any ares good links and the one you posted in v1 was not working.
And goear - Where music lives (http://goear.com/) is in Spanish.I posted only English sites.
Is it a online streaming service or a mp3 site?

I couldn't find any ares good link and the one you posted in that thread was not working.

There's an Ares thread here.

And goear - Where music lives (http://goear.com/) is in Spanish.

That's really weird, last time I used it it was multilanguage...

But that was last year.

And just for the record, it's an streaming site.

I've been doing it with slightly different resources.

1. streaming - shoutcast.com , I thought this is among most popular, why isn't mentioned?

2. downloading - all what you need is soulseek (http://www.slsknet.org/) + frostwire (http://www.frostwire.com/)

Instab
02.02.10, 00:39
frostwire

mmh, looks interesting. never heard of that and it's not windows only.
gonna give that a try :top:

anon
02.02.10, 00:40
It's Limewire without the RIAA blocking code and a few more perks.

Meaning that you should stick to downloading MP3 files only.

If you want to use the Gnutella network, give Cabos a try. It only needs a fraction of the resources Lime and Frostwire demand.

shadowww
02.02.10, 00:44
I'm actually not using any of that once I got into what and waffles so I can't comment much on them.

I just wrote frostwire coz I heard its cleaner then limewire, and ppl had positive experiences.

There's this place that used to be a pretty amazing source called Torrents Are Not The Only Fruit. (http://www.netvibes.com/tomfidd#ALBUMS_in_PICTURES)

Basically it was a music-specialized rapidshare blog aggregrator, with simplified one-stop searching and a nice layout. It was pretty unique, but I can't imagine it was the only one. It's pretty blah now, but if anyone knows of others I'd be most appreciative.

Especially considering anon has a paranoia level of 6.

I think eMule is a viable way of getting music...I know in China about 95% of internet users have an eMule/BitTorrent client called Xunlei aka Thunder installed. I also know that the internet in the city where I visited (and was born in) has 9 mbps (1 MB/s) upload :mad2:

But the ISP's would throttle BitTorrent 100%.

Sometimes I use a rapidshare search engine as rapidlibrary (http://rapidlibrary.com/) (the best in my opinion). Just write the song title + mp3.

At last but not least a mp3 search program called: supermp3download (http://www.super-mp3-download.com/), Iknow, I know, you have to pay for it but it has been cracked already.

Great Great list!
I think it all comes down to what type of music you are looking for.
If it is commercial "hits", torrent or Rapidshare and the like is the way to go.(Pop-Rock-Metal-Dance-etc)
Discographies in general are quite available through emule (think of 3+gb RARs)
If you are into some underground genre then try soulseek.
If you are looking for current date, indie stuff or not-so-known bands, and have free time, then Rapidshare and the like will do.
I personally do not like streaming services. I think they do nothing but clog the series of tubes that the internet is :P

RuTracker is a private tracker but a special one since you wont be banned for bad ratio. Theres a lot of music there, mostly flac. When i look for music this goes this way :

I want some FLAC's !!! > Rutracker > FilesTube > Google.

And ... thats it. Most of the times i dont have to look anywhere else (private trackers i'm a member at, boards, torrent engines ...). I just hate when i have to use Google since it means more time (checking for lossy to flac transcodes via frequency analysis, registration on obscure boards, waiting for crappy file managers like rapidshare & cie ...). I also have a "remote" What.cd account but in my opinion this tracker has a huge flaw: It takes sooo long to upload back you just cant really enjoy their monstruous database if you dont cheat. So i think of it as the last chance, that place i go for really rare albums.

Yep, you dont really need private trackers. But i really recomand rutracker. This thing is huge. For example, i'm still trying to understand how they can have so many french bands and movies ... i cant even find on the biggest french private trackers.

The RuTracker uploaders take albums from the FLAC tracker elite (i.e. Pedro's and Exigo) where there's an enforced "don't upload our stuff elsewhere" rule. That may be why.

Well, sometimes RT uploaders just say it themselves on the upload post: Its all in russian of course, but some uploads mention the album origin. I've seen Exigo once or twice. But What.cd and Waffles are the most common sources by far. However, i've never seen a quoted source yet when it comes to those rare "exclusivities" i mentioned earlier.

Since GS became unreliable, I'm mostly using Google (search for "trackname.mp3") or Ares. The latter also used to be nice, but now downloads won't start half the time even with ports forwarded and a stable connection to the network, not to mention the fakes. I know several people already mentioned this, but... I'm quite impressed with The Pirate Bay. I've found 320kbps albums from several pretty unknown bands like Myrath, Devil Doll and Two Steps from Hell. And with enough seeders. I used to download my albums from Warez-BB.org, but I can hardly find online links now. But I'm trying to move to lossless now, and TPB has proven not to be a good source of it. For underground bands I mean.

You're welcome. The Russian interface is a letdown for some, but trust me, they make up for it with their huge amount of stuff, and it's not that hard to find your way around. The only language problem I've noticed, is that they can change the ratio policies and I won't know what the new ones are, which has happened. But if you seed your snatches and try to keep a moderately good ratio, you'll be okay.

Yes, you can - it's possible to create playlists and view those of others to find new music. Grooveshark even lets you create one as you go using radio mode.

Agreed on the other points, however. Streaming is great to find new things, but when that happens, I'll just download a copy to have it always available.

Well probably the downloading trend will never die I agree with you ,but I'm sure it's decreasing and a lot of streaming sites are emerging now,the internet speed is becoming faster with time .There are some streaming sites like Rdio and Spotify that let you listen to your music in offline mode in your cellphone so apparently that is a solution when you want to listen some music without internet connection .

It worked initially, and I found it pretty good (some artists weren't available in the catalog, but the streaming itself was lightning-fast, as if I had the files locally), but after some days after, the client gave me a "you aren't from the US" message and refused to log in anymore. What's the status on that now?

I believe nowadays or you pay or you get ads on Spotify . Audio ads, isn't that correct?

@anon - All the scenarios you mentioned above are still same mate. But even though an artist not available in the catalog, most probably you can access to their music. When you got that "you aren't from the US" message , reconnect using a VPN ( a simplest way is to use Tunnel Bear), spent few minutes & disconnect from the VPN

Don't try to block the audio ads , I don't think it is technically possible mates. But you can mute ads  . Third party programs (Blockify (http://tribe.nu/Blockify.html)for Windows/PC and Smutefy (http://smutefy.inacho.es/)for Mac) have been developed to mute ads while Spotify is running.

Had a quick look at it. Site features, including "flow", seem good. Did some searches and could find most of what I looked for (not everything, but that's fine because no legal service could ever rival Grooveshark, where everyone could upload anything that wasn't on their blacklist).

If there's a working way to rip tracks, it would make a good substitute.

Sidify Music Converter - Convert Spotify or Apple Music to MP3 Losslessly (http://www.sidify.com/)
okay but that'd be a transcode unless you save as wav so spotify doesn't qualify here as it seems

Historical thread right here! I remember how useful v1 was for me when most of this forum got banned from What.cd :ggrin:

https://wax.click/

The interface is good, but their song collection seems lacking...

I use myfreemp3.vip for single tracks nowadays.

Thanks for the extensive list :) by the way, i wanted to add that another good place to download music is SoulseekQt which is basically a program where you share and download all sorts of files including music (FLAC files are really common there).

I've heard a lot about Soulseek, it's where the BoC Old Tunes tapes were originally leaked, and yet... to this day I still haven't tried it :gfrown:

Nothing to see there. Mostly low quality mp3s.

I still use that from time to time when I just wanna grab some (single) mp3 and am not in the mood to grab whole albums. It's very useful and uncomplicated. Can find rare stuff here too

I disagree, not everything is low quality, most of the time you find users with huge scene libraries of mp3 and flac.

no that many flac. also lots of assholes, locking their files, asking for trade with list of the albums they want, some even asking for money to give you access. :stupid:
old scene stuff is on usenet, quality flacs on trackers, soulseek not that appealing right now.

i've seen few user like this. Many ask to trade albums, but there are some cheeky bastards who try to profit of music files they have downloaded from all over internet. If it's rips there personal cd collection I might understand but don't think that's the case

The only thing that would bankrupt RED is removing the invite forum :suicide: Also, cross-posting this here.

If you add raw=1 to the query string, you get redirected straight to the video stream... there's also a local parameter which can be true or false (not 1 or 0, confusingly) to proxy the video through Invidious or not, and quality which can be one of dash, hd720 or medium.

Can also be used from a terminal.

wget "https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=q6o49pbJaDo&quality=medium&local=false&raw=1"

Adding &listen=1 downloads the audio track instead. Neither preserves the original name, but at least they'll work if you can't or don't want to install anything.

But if you need something more complex or don't want to trust the Invidious instance that does the redirect, youtube-dl or jDownloader it is.
