Congratz on new BOX, it may serve you well and reliable for years.

However.
I am not sure if Dual-Core CPU and GeForce 8800 GT makes it supercomuter. It is not too much computing power even if talking about CUDA. Storage size seems to be average.

I mean if you had FASTRA or FASTRA II

FASTRA specs
FASTRA (http://fastra.ua.ac.be/en/specs.html)

FASTRA II sppecs

Mostly it.'s not what you have but how much processing power you are able to use effectively.

Good PC, have fun.

nothing special - you can build a faster PC for less money:
Use an AMD Phenom II X4 955 - 150€ (afaik 190$ ?)
an AM3 Mainboard with 770 chipset: 100$
4 GB DDR3 - 60-70$
HD5770 - 150$ (or HD4870 for the same)
Normal Enermax PSU with 425W (noone needs more!) - 70$
1 HDD - 70$ (Not any special one - a Variant with 500GB on one platter and 7k2)
At least one case for 70$ and a DVD burner for 30$.

sum: 750$ - 50$ less and even faster.

- v6ph1

PS: Prices are todays Euro prices from germany using a course of 1€=1,3$. (rounded with tax)

It's worth to buy average PC and update it frequently/selling older PC parts at eBay and so on.

Absolutely agree with you Nobody. Maximum setting are overrated not much different than middle ones.

great pc for non-hardcore gamer....

For some it might be, server usage and for those who understand and are able to use parallel computing with GPU's.(nVidia CUDA or ATI Stream)

You should have gone for a cheap DX10 card that way you could enjoy the newer games. Also, 8800 eats a lot more power and produces a lot more heat. I would go with what v6ph1 suggested for the GPU. Also buddy your PSU is overkill for the setup.

But, slow and steady H/W updates can change a lot ;)

My PC was a high-end PC when buyed a year ago (still upper-class), but for the future I'm looking for a green-it-pc.
I think they're called nettops.
They dont have enough power for video-encoding or latest games, but they are enough for general work like office, web and even media-playback stuff (up to 1080p with XBMC).

The big plus is that their power consumption is very low.
Furthermore sometimes they're available in tiny cool-looking cases (Example: AcerRevo, Zotac Mag).

For a little time I jumped to a laptop, but the ergonomy was not as good as I thought.

i agree it looks like there is no difference between the middle settings and the highest settings in many video games. The only game i see a huge difference is mw2

Hey guys! I need an advice. Would you rather buy AMD six core, or Intel quadro? AMD isn't so expensive, unlike Intel, but a lot of people say AMD sucks!

DarkSaibot v.1.3.10
22.02.12, 00:31
if you play games AMD six Core is enough - actually more than enough , beside that i don't see why somebody want to spend around 800-1000 dolars for a i7 CPU because for normal users is no difference..only good thing on intel is that the motherboards for intel processors has more dimms of ram ..6 for example

Not bad.I have the same specs + 1 x samsung mon 1920x1080.Don't need anything else at the moment.

Yea, I wanna play games!
How much would you pay for an entire PC, to be able to play latest and future games for a few years?

DarkSaibot v.1.3.10
22.02.12, 16:34
i paid around 1000 euro..how much depends on how much do you have for spending
but only for games and AMD CPU with 6 core is the best on price and performance

SBfreak

I also stand for AMD ,intel ones tend to be overpriced.

Well I don't think mine's too big,in fact I could use another one.I am talking about my monitor you sick bastards.
I pretty much end up using all the space on several workspaces using i3 - improved tiling wm (http://i3wm.org/).
The reason I won't get another one is that I presume it would be too much for my eyes.
