And its probably in the wrong sub forum, mabye should be in "Feedback for the announcements" but I cant make a new thread in there, but technically this thread is still in a feeback forum so I hope its still ok.
There were many things covered in anon's thread however i just want to touch on 2 main points
Advertising revenue
Exclusivity
Spam Us With Advertising
I know I might get get my ass kicked for this by some members and mabye get many -ve rep (:biggrin:) for this but...
I know that SBI get advertising revenue from visits but why not also spam its members with ads, just place them around the forum and we click them and its not too intrusive as to prevent i\us from efficiently participating in the forum. I would go crazy on them if I knew it helped SBI. The opening ad for einsurance only works like once every logon visit and if i leaved the SBI in the browser, for hours on end I dont see it again till I restart the browser.
We have forums sections ranging from hardware, movies, general software, games etc etc, there must be some keywords in there that placement advertising can use to draw ads.

Why not use a "get paid to upload" service

Everytime a user wants to download a mod SBI gets paid for it. Im sure members wouldnt mind and it would at least pay for some bandwidth cost that "visit for the only purpose of getting a mod" users come for.
But be prepared to update and reupdate those links cos people are gona put false info in the surveys and the companies have a bs threshold they uphold.
Exclusivity
If people come here just to download and go it doesnt do much for ad revenue or exclusivity rep of SBI (as mentioned by Sealion (see (http://www.sb-innovation.de/f133/strike-while-iron-hot-7570/#post57447)) ). But it will say to people SBI is trying to give the broader Internet community a hand and general educational stuff.
Before reading anon's post I went to the right and said open the gates to get more people (here (http://www.sb-innovation.de/f56/private-tracker-spies-17263/index3.html#post151925)). But Manas has taken the middle ground with his suggestion (here (http://www.sb-innovation.de/f133/strike-while-iron-hot-7570/#post57543)) of opening a 10min a day is good too, but please rotate the times so different people from different time zones can still get in without much hassle. Just report the times to be open.
Manas suggestion may result in those coming only to download mods lingering for a while longer and on more days due to wanting to get exclusive membership. But then that would mean they wont be able to post and only read,. But the more posts the more google can index so maybe give all guests a temp guest name to post. I have no idea how this would work out. On second thought if they are guests they probably would not post much that is constructive so probably no need to give them posting rights.
