The X58 chipset and Core i7 have proven to be a worthy one-two punch in the high-end CPU wars between Intel and AMD. Performance of the Core i7 processors outstrips that of the fastest Phenom IIs available today. Intel has announced the Core i7 975 which will sport a clock speed of 3.33GHz and a 25x multiplier. This will be the fastest Intel CPU for a while and should be compatible with X58 motherboards with a BIOS update.

Gigabyte manufactures motherboards, video cards and other computer related equipment including motherboards from virtually every chipset manufacturer including Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD and Via.

I got the UD3R version of that series board. Currently I have an I7 920 which I have managed to clock up to 3.8GHz with no problems at all, and my memory is running at 1800MHz. It's pretty dam good really. Very impressed with this series of boards, even the more "budget" oriented one like mine.
