The mass-level link-spam lures unsuspecting users to click on the link which leads them to another website asking to install their streaming-codec to watch pre-release leaked version of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince online for free which in-fact is a malware, once the movie is released similar phenomenon is expected on torrent portals and file-hosters like Rapidshare, Megaupload and Mediashare getting flooded with fake DVD-Rips of the movie to cash on the Harry Potter craze.

yet another reason to download scene releases which are malware/virus free

tips:

use 'trusted' sites

check the scene releases (nfo databases, pre channels) and don't download anything that is 'released' before the scene does it (if its new)

if you get the files from forums, download those that are posted by forum admins/moderators/long time members

if you download from public torrents, choose those that are uploaded by vip's or trusted users

if you download from private trackers you should be 90% safe

scan everything you download from the internet with an updated antivirus software before using it

delete files that try to download a media player 'needed to play them' or redirect to a site with the password to 'use them'

use updated ipfilters before starting a torrent

Now a days many anti-pirate companies are watching several trackers. It is always recommended to use private tracker and downloading scene releases:wink2:

In countries like india, pakistan,Iraq etc no body cares what you are downloading.hence i have nothing to worry about.

My country doesn't care, either - but for those new to P2P, that 0.2MB EXE posing as an aXXo rip is up to no good.

"Fake Harry Potter movie going around the Net" - replace "Harry Potter" with any famous/highly anticipated movie title, and the same can be said again and again.
