MPlayer - The Movie Player (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html)
VLC latest Version, and you don´t need any Codec-Pack, just the Player and your done :)
Windows xp,windows vista=VLC player or K-lite codec pack
Windows 7=Km player
hmm very difficult dicision...I find GOM good because its very small...
VLC is the best but 60 MB is for my old XP too big...
KMplayer - offers a lot of options and properties and has a nice design :)
I have been using KMPlayer a lot more. I have used MPC/VLC and it seems KMPlayer is just a bit better than both of these.
I really recommend it. :top:
Yes ok I will try KMPlayer:top:

It has 3D rendering which makes your hd movies look nicer. 3Dish look.
For me:
Best video player - VLC (VideoLAN Player) (Open source, ne need for external codecs, ReplayGain support....)
Audio - Foobar2000 (Win) / Rhythmbox (Linux)

MPC + Foobar2000 für musik. beste combo!!!
VLC for averege movies
foobar2000 for music and
MPC Home Cinema for 720p and 1080p movies :D
Unter Windoof MPC HC mit entsprechenden Filtern etc.

I think Media Player Classic Home Cinema is the best player
in my opinion VLC is the best

Any player for MAC ?
vlc or quicktime with flip4mac and perian.
I think Media Player Classic Home Cinema is the best player
indeed. mpc has the best performance on windows. also a neat statistics display and file associations are easy to set. the ui is very fast, too.

I used to swear by VLC, but believe me when I say kmplayer is much better.

I've found kmplayer is much better for HD content, 720p/1080p looks a lot clearer than VLC... That said I don't have many Bluray rips so I run VLC myself, but it's well worth it if you watch much in HD.
lg Max
and kmplayer is better to preview incomplete Videos (you can scroll in Videos where VLC stucks)
I'm using BSplayer Pro now ,also I tried GOM Player and MPC

vlc is also good...
Bsplayer and Videolan , I like specially automatic subs into bsplayer
I love my VLC and time to time Km player when it's hard to find sync subtitle...km player does that best! and easily!

Arcsoft Total Media Theatre 3 for HD and BluRay
also MPC-HC a very nice tool and free with stretch capabilities, clear view

XBMC on HTPC , VLC for PC-Usage
VLC all the way. I've never found a video file that I had that VLC would not play. I've been using it for over a year now and have not found anything better.
vlc and kmplayer are both good players with extended codec lists. i also have been hearing good things about gom player but i have yet to try it
KMPlayer - but at win7 does not work of 100% (:

For now i'm playing with Plex & also XBMC.
I'm trying to do my own skin and to control those players with a command line tool plugins for Quartz Composer.
Quartz Composer is a kind of graphic & interactive programmation tool provided with Apple Mac OSX. It's a nodal pragramation tool that could make great 3D interfaces.
I'm working on a kind of multitouch interface to control XBMC.
XBMC is a bit buggy for now but it seems to be the quickest and lightest HD player.
As i need to save processor for my Multitouch skin, I'm working with it.
Plex seems better but use more CPU.

I normally use Mplayer for Windows (http://mulder.dummwiedeutsch.de/home/?page=projects#mplayer). While I like VLC it seems a bit more buggy than Mplayer. I'm a bit of a stickler for open source stuff so I have no clue about the other commercial players.
Verwende auch VLC als Video Player.
Never had a bug problem with it..

Yep,
i discovered KMPlayer and with that Player, i am looking Movies, in HD-Quality, without any Error's and with low Performance use. With VLC my HD-Movies are freezing, i can't play them without little freezes, with KMPlayer it works very fine.
With KMPlayer, i'm looking Movies, hearing Music, and whatever ^^

You're welcome. Afaik, that's the only solution if you don't want to struggle with AVIsynth and all the codec-stuff.
SPlayer is best.
IT's all relative my friend....it's all relative. So many media players on the market that one's opinion is relative to their own.
BS player says that it's the best.
VLC says that it's the best.
Someone else will say that KMplayer is the best.
Another one will say that Win Media Player does the job for them.
And so on and so on.....
too bad many statement don't have any reasoning
Yes.
Exactly.
And due to my very own invented magic, otherwise known as Quantum Physics, I conclude that the reason heretofore mentioned, for the reasons of why such-and-such players are the best, is purely coincidental and deliberately propagated to cause both skin rashes and premature ejaculation ...a.k.a, economic propaganda...a.k.a. advertising.
Hence, one can see why another likes this item over another and thence come to the conclusion that propaganda and advertising are bound together in sickness and in health... until death do them part.
They remain synonymous to this day.

the KM player for HD contents and VLC for < 720p.

MPlayer - The Movie Player
As someone who believes, less is more, i am very happy with BSplayerPro. I customized it, to run borderless, remember last playback and downloaded the simple skin 'just play'. Works fine with 2000,XP,Vista,Win7. Codecs will be downloaded automaticly and are only used by bsplayer, wihtout mixing with the windows core codecs.
But i have to admit, that i recommended VLC the last years for the 'less involved' PC users. its a little easier to use and its sure as hell can play more different types of media from the get go than any other programm i was able to test.

VLC 1.1.7 Best Player ever times

Media Player Classic.
Then if MPC is no good, I play the video on VLC.
Splash Pro, good interface and play one file VLC not
DAPlayer (http://www.digiarty.com/) (Digiarty Player), it`s freeware.
It has a long list of built-in codecs for over 320 video and 130 audio codecs.
The interface is simple but the translations suck a little bit (e.g. German).

VLC and i m satisfied
for music BS player with DFX pro ....
MPC HC in kombi mit dem Klitecodecpack
Anyone knows if you can add more subtitle databases in MPC HC?
MPC Black Edition + CoreAVC + RAR File Source
SMPlayer + optimized mplayer binary + binary codecs (x86 only)
MPC-BE supports hardware acceleration, but SMPlayer downloads video in chunks (making it QoS and battery friendly), has some more features, and the mplayer backend is a terminal application so you can pipe stuff to it.
As a consequence of this, I use both on an almost equal basis.
VLC hat alles was du benötigst

Is CoreAVC even a thing now? Haven't heard a thing about this codec since Windows XP times. Is it still being updated? Why is it good?
It hasn't been updated in a long time, but it's still the fastest H.264 decoder around, both in software and hardware. To give an extreme example, a 2000-era Pentium III can play 720p fluidly using the combination of programs you quoted. And since I know I'll be stuck with my current hardware for a while, I like getting the most out of it =]

I've been using GOMPlayer and VLC Player on XP & Windows 7 for ages now. They work smoothly.
I'm fully happy with em.
VLC has problems with cyrillic subs up to this day, not to mention their playlist system being absolutely loathsome. I decided to stick with Daum PotPlayer and I have no regrets (except, maybe, Settings being way too complicated for a regular user)
In case anyone cares, the last version of MPC-BE that works on Windows XP is 1.4.6.

Media Player Classic
You need to install "K Lite Mega Codec", "Media Player Classic" will automatically installed..
Or you can grab MPC-BE from https://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/ and install it yourself =] I have tried many media players over the years before settling for that, plus SMPlayer/mplayer as a (rarely-used) backup. Oh, and Winamp 2.95 for music.
I have VLC, and MPC-HC and PotPlayer installed (switched to it from GomPlayer KMP when Gom KMP dev sold Gom KMP and began to develop Pot) . And MPC-BC now to try it after reading anon's post..
But my default video player is PotPlayer. It was previously VLC, but I find sound and video quality better with PotPlayer than with VLC (unless maybe you use some VLC setting tricks explained somewhere here (https://www.sb-innovation.de/showthread.php?13711-Using-VLC-Player-to-sound-better-than-Winamp-with-DFX) on sbi several years ago).
Oh, and I have Mpv Player installed too. Haven't had enough time to test it until now, but a special feature (or a bug?) of this soft is that when launched it deactivates f.lux (which is reactivated just after Mpv is closed). So in case of f.lux usage, using Mpv makes the video itself is more natural, more sunny. But it can be a shock for your eyes when you start it after having used your pc with 2500k color temperature for hours.
VLC mainly specially for quick runs. For movies though I might use MPC-BE installed with LAV decoders and MadVR (included in k-lite mega codec) or PotPlayer.

MPC-BE is basically the same as Home Cinema, but it's not feature-frozen and has more decoders as well as a dark skin (wow).
I recall using the original MPC on 2006 with no built-in filters, which meant you had to install at least ffdshow, and deal with the trouble that caused if you didn't adjust process exclusions and merit levels... thankfully Bill Gates invented Media Foundation later :smilie4:

MPV is based on the extremely powerful and flexible mplayer. This sort of problem can be solved by fine-tuning the video parameters. I'd start by changing the -vo (output driver). Try direct3d or gl:yuv=2:force-pbo (to which you should add ati-hack if you get a green/magenta screen); directx is very fast but turns off Aero. Adding -dr and/or -noslices to your command line is also worth a test.
Or you can swap f.lux for https://github.com/jonls/redshift; I did five years ago and never looked back =]

The Android version is the best dedicated video player on that platform.
K Lite Mega Codecs
Fun fact: the K-Lite Codec Pack takes its name from the K-Lite Forums, themselves named after an unofficial version of Kazaa which had spyware removed and extra features added. Kazaa is long dead (destroyed by fake files and not being NAT-aware), the forum is now known as FileSharing Talk, and none of the people originally involved with the project are active anymore... but the codec pack still exists almost two decades later :gsmile:

As for me, I'm so old I know why Media Player "Classic" is named thus.
I've been a long time VLC user, but if the contend is 4K it stutters on my old PC. For 4K MPC-HC works much better for me.
VLC works pretty much for everything.
I believe at this point of time, top players in the game are MPC-BE/VLC/PotPlayer/MPV/SMPlayer as free and open sources ones. VLC 4 is very late now and I am testing the others to eliminate ones with bad experience.

the best for android tv ?
the best for android tv ?
Free & Open-Source:
1) VLC for Android TV: Widely known for its excellent codec support, playing virtually any video format you throw at it. It's free, open-source, and ad-free. The interface can be a bit basic, but its functionality is hard to beat.
2) MX Player: Another popular choice, offering hardware acceleration for smooth playback, extensive subtitle support, and an online streaming feature. It has a free version with ads, and a paid version without ads and with additional features.
More Features & Options:
1) Kodi: More than just a video player, Kodi is a full-fledged media center with features like library management, live TV, add-ons for streaming services, and more. It has a steeper learning curve but offers great customization and flexibility.
2) Lark Player: A relatively new player that quickly gained popularity for its beautiful interface, HDR support, and Chromecast integration. It has a free version with ads, and a paid version without ads and with additional features like cloud storage.
3) PlayerXtreme Media Player: Another feature-rich player with 4K HDR support, Chromecast and DLNA integration, and parental controls. It has a free version with limited features, and a paid version with all features unlocked.
Here are some additional resources that might help you decide:
Best Android TV Video Players in 2023: https://www.larkplayer.com/resource/video-player/
12 Best Video Players for Android TV in 2023: https://trotons.com/best-video-player-for-android-tv-free/
Stuff
Of these, I'd recommend Kodi. The interface was made for this sort of usage, and the addons only make it better. It also has a remote control app for phones.

i'm using vlc but is avg ,mx player is kinda good but you need it nuked or pro ,kodi is doing to much ,close to lagging the tv box ,playerxtreme and lark have to test - another issue that have noticed is on subs, some are hard to pick them,i have to go to x place, load the subs and so on,won't relax watching tv shows in this way
MX Player is good, and its one big drawback (battery drain) is not a problem here, but I don't think the interface is suited for non-touch usage. If Kodi is so slow, you may want to look into debloating, the User 0 method does not require root.
the best for android tv ?
Kodi
is best for android tv or android tv box
