China has developed more secure operating software for its tens of millions of computers and is already installing it on government and military systems, hoping to make Beijing's networks impenetrable to U.S. military and intelligence agencies.

The secure operating system, known as Kylin, was disclosed to Congress during recent hearings that provided new details on how China's government is preparing to wage cyberwarfare with the United States.

"We are in the early stages of a cyber arms race and need to respond accordingly," said Kevin G. Coleman, a private security specialist who advises the government on cybersecurity. He discussed Kylin during a hearing of the U.S. China Economic and Security Review Commission on April 30.

the chinese government is pretty naive if they think that hiring hackers and some (western!) security specialists will give them a clean system, i bet many of these 'specialists' made back doors to be able to access the system when the need arises, so the chinese may be in for a few surprises

you know, cyber warfare between the States and China has been going on for a number of years already.

I think that a couple of years ago, some political thing happened between the STates and China, I think it was the accidental bombing of the Chinese embassy in Iraq or some place...can't remember right now, but after that event, there was a lot of cyber war activity coming from China hoping to hack, and I would tend to believe it, US systems...goverment, agencies, military, scientific organizations,,,,etc...etc..

LIke I just mentioned. This has been going on for a couple of years already and will continue.

Since China is emerging as a regional power, expect to hear more news on security related items on China.

I wasn't aware of that, but I did know that US military systems receive daily attacks, mainly from China and Russia.

That I do beleive. That I can see happening.

Even though the States and China are trading partners, it's kind of hard to believe that this thing goes on between those 2 countries.

And with respect to Russia and the states. That I can see happening as well.

With the new President and his anchorman as Prime Minister ( what's his name again??...the former KGB agent, that is who was President before...anyways..Putin!!!...that's his name) and the start of new tensions that were exacerbated in the Russian invasion of Georgia, yes. That's possible.
Considering that Russia, from so many years of corruption, increase in russian mafia activity, non-payment of military personnal, nuclear sites not being protected or secured properly when the old Soviet Union collapsed, Russian military equipment being sold on the Black Market, etc...etc...which after years of work to correct those failures and other things finally came to frutition when Putin came to office.

The rise of Russia to attain it's global influence and become a world power again, that doesn't surprise me in the least to hear this, then.
