A Beautiful Mind with Russel Crow

This film offers a compelling look at one mans genius, his debilitating mental illness, schizophrenia, and the fine line between the two.

The Pursuit of Happyness - having a kid, I don't know, it just made me appreciate her being there all the more!
Also Final Destination - after seeing it the night before taking a flight that left at the same time as my birthdate, on board with a load of college kids and babies, and the seat tray that wouldn't stay up......made me think about staying on board!

In order to think you actually have to understand something from a movie.

I know what you mean. if you are looking for a thriller with a riveting plot, this isn't it. Its an impressionist movie, you have to look at the situations and events depicted in the movie from different perspectives..

* Movie that makes u "THINK"

lets see...

every movie makes you think simply because your act of watching incites thinking (just like anything else you consciously register), so you could be watching a complete garbage of a movie or a blank reel and you'd still think about it (or about something related to it or about something 'completely' unrelated to it)

what was meant here is movies that make you think differently about something, that change your perspective on things, which results with unusual conclusions or states of mind - the same applies here, any movie can do that, some just might make a bigger impact or have more related material to think about - interestingly enough, regardless of how well a movie might be crafted or how abundant its information might be or how recommended it is, it still won't change your perception unless you're ready to change it (or ready for such a change), in fact it might even fortify your previous beliefs if they are sufficiently well entrenched as a part of your ego-driven worldview - it might also be said that not every change in perspective is positive, meaning that movies that make you 'think' aren't universally beneficial, actually it could be said that most of the hollywood or commercial movies aren't really beneficial, moreover, weren't even designed/produced/directed/scripted with such an intention, mostly they represent vehicles for spreading & fortifying certain interests/worldviews/ideas/ideals (which is btw. natural, though has far reaching effects when done in an organized way, as it is in the entertainment industry of today)

a film that you understand completely doesn't make you think a lot man.

more accurately, anything (including a movie) that you understand completely requires no thinking about it at all, if you understand it completely there's nothing to think about regarding that subject, furthermore, even the subject itself becomes meaningless (a 'meaning' is a relative construction based on incomplete perception, one which rests upon illusory beliefs formed in an incomplete state of existence, one which characterizes every human being), for in a state of complete understanding there is no place for thinking, there's nothing left to think about...and that is actually something worthwhile to pursue/accomplish, believe it or not (just observe the vast inadequacy of one's own thinking regarding the completeness of its results, their vague/unsatisfactory character revealing their current or even inherent insufficiency or misalignment with the fundamentals), or in other words, to reach a state of complete understanding one has to (fully) reach one's own true self, 'merge' with it, achieve a complete state of 'existence', completing/finalizing the circle or cycle of existence (which is what the well-known phrases like 'coming home' or 'fulfilling one's destiny' or 'reaching one's full potential' really/fundamentally refer to, which also explains why they are so heavily used and commonly misunderstood)

The Life of Pi

makes one think about ang lee's pretentiousness, yet a complete lack of any relevant or useful insights/messages?

Eraserhead

hmm, erasing this movie from one's memory?

Ladri di biciclette

makes one think about securing his bicycle? ;)

generally, regarding this thread, i'd say it would be more interesting to know what some movie made you think about, maybe with some details/conclusions too, otherwise a simple list of movies doesn't say much really

haha I was too lazy when I posted it to explain the reason why each movie make you think,

Maybe instead in having a wall of movies title I should have chose just one .Anyway for me "Eraserhead " is a really obscure/horror movie from David Lynch that can make you think and probably have nightmares ,I really like it.

"Ladri di biciclette" make you think how a really simple plot of an old movie can be really entertaining and keep you attached to to the desperation to find his bicycle,at least is what happened to me when I watched it ,sometimes is incredible how people become attached and even obsessed to objects/things.

Inception was good but too hyped. Same with Shutter Island. My friends talked about them all the time when they came out. I avoided spoilers so the plot twists got me in full, but masterpieces and best movies of the year 2010? Eeeeh.

As for the titular question...

The Matrix (1999) - needs no explanation
Fight Club (1999) - needs no explanation
Thank You for Smoking (2006) - makes you think about the power of the tobacco industry, lobbying and advertising.
Lord of War (2005) - makes you think about the global illegal arms trade, the billions that are made at the expense of death and suffering, and how USA and allies wage proxy wars and covertly supply the "friends" they can't afford to be seen supplying.
Inside Out (2015) - it's okay to be sad sometimes.
The Full Monty (1997) - comedy about a group of guy friends that decide to become strippers, but also touches more serious topics like body image, depression, suicide, men's rights and poverty (the reason most of them agree to do it in the first place is because they were unemployed and deep in debt).
