The worst virus I've had was the trojan, Vundo. Info available here: Vundo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vundo) It was a pain to remove because the infected file names it chose were random, and so was a pain, but I found out about VundoFix, and after running it about 3 times, and a few restarts, it was removed.

Same thing happened to me. All of my exe turned into virus. Searched a lot of forums coz I didnt want to lose my valuable applications. I was using avira and it was detecting all of my exe files as virus and deleting them. Then I used a antivirus scanner known as Dr.Web CureIt which could repair those exe. Although it could not repair the system files which were currently in use so I had to reinstall windows. But that antivirus scanner saved a lot of my applications.

Same trojan, only I removed it with Malwarebytes!

You can also remove it with SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com | Remove Malware | Remove Spyware - AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, AntiAdware! (http://www.superantispyware.com). The free edition should effectively remove that infection. If you are already running SUPERAntiSpyware, make sure to update to the latest version and definitions.

i was attacked by a well programmed virus.. :mad2:

it changed my DOC,XLS,TXT to EXE's full of viruses,
not only that it encrypted my EXE files and replaced the originals with itself!!!

then integrated itself into explorer.exe, taskmgr.exe, regedit.exe and calc.exe and much more...

result = changed my life to hell,
luckily it didn't affect .avi and iso files..:rolleyes2: (500GB+)

Yes, but I meant you could have closed the shutdown window by running that.

I remember Windows Update would show such a dialog back when XP was just released and you tried to update it with a blacklisted CD Key...

The first worst was an accidently self-codet one:
A tool which schould delete a subdirectory of C:\Windows on WinME.
Without system file protection I had to reinstall windows.

Then some trojans - the last one was really tricky:
It deactivates the UAC of Vista and disallow the starting of and checking with antivir.
After I removed the files with an other PC and reactivated the UAC, the trojan was blocked by it. So one short scan with antivir removed this completely from my hdd.

I had an unknown virus. It was similar to w32.beagle but had some more "features"
Files were named: wintems.exe, hldrrr.exe, srosa.sys .

-It installed 2 hidden system drivers (files you could only see and delete with NTFS4DOS)
-It had a list of known security software processes to disable (VERY complete)
-It runned a program to call different websites and download more viruses.
-Whatever you deleted, resurrected from nowhere after reboot (with no dllcache and restore point enabled)

I tried a million AV and rootkit programs and couldn't get any of them to even show an alert. I followed dozens of forum discussions on how to remove it. Nothing will kill the bastard.
After a week of frustration and switching drives and stuff I finally booted up NTFS4DOS and replaced all those files with txt files renamed to the same name.
Windows booted up and the files were visible. I deleted them and got rid of it.
Sounds easy, but google it and you will see it's not.

This year i got a crap virus through emule called Bagle. A new version that could not be removed with the normal tools available :X It was the hardest bitch i ever killed... Could not be seen in taskmanager or explorer, prevent the see hidden files and starting security mode, antvirus, etc. It loaded multiple files with random names on start. Had to overload CPU on restart so i could kill all its copies before they could be loaded, then kill files in win/system32 with a tool called gmer. Virus total only reported suspicious, i was lucky vista prevented it from running on my other pcs :p

Conclusion : well all Viruses came due to my carelessness of not installing a Security Software in My PC as these kinds of Apps really Suck up your System resources makig it go Slow.
So i never liked Them , But now I Have Some Apps on PC that Are Really Effective , i Would like to Share..
1.) Kaspersky Internet Security __Heavy on Resources sometimes But very Effective Protection ,Daily Updates .Welll its only Useful If u have a LEgal Key as they Blacklist u & ur Key.

3.) Unhackme __Ultimate App. with this u can Almost detect Every virus & Rootkits , plus it has some other very Good tools. its DEEP SCAN Feature is its main Strength for Detecting Everything.

Creating a folder called autorun.inf is also a good idea to prevent them from copying. :top:

I know, but a folder (not file) called autorun.inf will prevent most flashdrive viruses from making themselves the default action when opening the flashdrive from "My Computer" - can be a lifesaver.

Had couple of viruses, trojans & spywares that drove me crazy, but the last one was kinda a$$ kicker,I just couldn't open my Process Manager nor Shut down my PC normally,I had to plug it off.

I also had once the USB virus but I learned how to remove it safely without damaging or deleting any precious data.

A nice trick is to open the Task Manager on a hex-editor, look for the registry value that prevents it from running (DisableTaskMgr), and fill it with 00s. Save the file, and you have a Task Manager that can't be disabled via registry. Using APT is also a good idea.

Also, perhaps you know COM executables take precendence over EXEs. If you get "xxxx isn't a valid Win32 app", enable showing hidden files, go to system32, look for 0-byte .coms called "regedit", "cmd", etc., and delete them.

Flash Disinfector is a really handy tool when dealing with flashdrive viruses. :top:

I was infected with virus that erases partition.
Fortunately, I was using Vista and it did not work on Vista.
But many people lost datas with Windows XP or 2000.
